New Horizon Public School (NHPS) located near Humayun’s Tomb, New Delhi, organized the 2nd Khel Utsav to commemorate National Sports Day in memoriam of the legendary hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand Singh on Thursday, August 29, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
The inaugural programme was commenced with the rendition of holy verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the lighting of the torch for health & fitness. The flame was handed over by the sports captain, deputy head boys & NHPS Sameer Ahmad, Head boy Afsar Hussain and deputy head boy Adyan Khan.
The Honourable chief guests for the occasion were Atishi Marlena, Educational Counsellor to the Hon’ble Deputy CM and Romi Joshi, Assistant Director Sports PE &NI Chhatrasal stadium. Atishi Marlena addressed the students and encouraged them to be successful in the field of sports.
It was an eye-catching and wonderful scene which was followed by the welcome dance ‘Swagattam’, school anthem and mass drill.
The formal welcome to Hon’ble chief guests was presented by the Hon’ble Manager of NHPS Kamal Faruqui. The shawls and mementos were presented to chief guests by the Hon’ble Chairman of NHPS Mohammad Naqvi and memento of gratitude was presented to all the guests invited to the event. Moreover, all the officials deputed for the games were also honoured by Naqvi.
On this occasion, the fifth volume of the newsletter called ‘NHPS Mirror’ was also released. After which the Hon’ble chairman Kamal Faruqui and Babu Ram were called upon to the stage to give green signal for the opening of Khel Utsav for hundreds of students who participated in the eveKhan26 schools from across Delhi took part in this inter-school competition. The 2nd Khel Utsav started with a well-coordinated inter-school march past competition by the various participating schools.
Track and field events for different categories were sequentially started and perfectly managed in the field of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. All the tracks and field Events saw enthusiastic participation from students of different schools in the scorching sunlight. Around 2000 students participated in the Khel Utsav and made it a thumping success with their active participation. 18 schools participated in the 2nd Khel Utsav 2019. The winners were honoured with prizes at the end of the programme.
The event was organised with a purpose to commemorate the National Sports Day which marks the birth anniversary of the legend Major Dhyaan Chand Singh who extraordinarily earned three Olympics gold medals for India in the year 1928, 1932 and1936.
